Parthenia Projects presents a sweet suite of site-conditioned photographs, "New-New," by  Matthew L Grover / MLGXYZ for one day only, Saturday, November 14th, 2015, from 3-6 pm.
Artist Statement:
"Scanned pages of writing, notes, maps, and photos are displayed here as a covert research den.  Variations of this theme have been depicted in movies and television as wall collages of suspect portraits, along with other images of clues, locations, evidence, and miscellaneous research.  Bear with me momentarily… 


In this season of Homeland, Carrie Mathison mapped portraits of possible suspects out to get her.  The map was made on the living room walls and windows of a country home to which she retreated to brainstorm whom could have mysteriously attacked her and her client in Lebanon.  Also, Carrie went off her bipolar medication to enhance her cognitive abilities, as she thought going a little crazy really gave her an edge.  She even was inducing her mood swings by snorting crushed caffeine pills.

In the spirit of Carrie Mathison, the process of my work is laid bare on the barn walls showing its nutty logic and drug influence, which for better or worse, motivates my ongoing project, New-New.  Its driving force has been chasing a high that I get joyriding, yet that was only the gateway drug. 

The project has expanded into a constellation of characters, vehicles, technologies, and industries—- all of which have a specificity to the San Fernando Valley—- where this show is happening, btw."
